The Department of Resources Recycling (DRRR) and CalRecycle run California’s beverage container recycling law. They have established that stores identified as beverage dealers have a recycling center setup within a convenience zone which is typically a half-mile radius of a supermarket.
The State of California supports recycling with the creation of The California Beverage Container Act AB2020. This increases recycling by legally requiring convenient locations for recycling and by offering consumers a fair price for their recyclable goods.
State law mandates that all beverage dealers in a Convenience Zone obey California state law by:
1. Having a certified recycling center – like Greenhouse Recycling Center – within the Convenience Zone or,
2. Paying a daily fee of $100 per day to the State of California or,
3. Paying consumers the refund value for all recyclable beverage containers at every open register within the store
